Terms of Service
New Canon · newcanon.ink
These terms are the agreement between you and New Canon LLC, a Wyoming limited liability company ("New Canon," "we," "us"), for using newcanon.ink. By using New Canon, applying, or making an account, you agree to them. Some parts of New Canon may not be open yet; each section applies once you use that part.
How we handle your information is in our Privacy Policy.
The short version
- You must be 16 or older to use New Canon, and 18 or older to be a creator.
- Creators own their work. They give us permission to show it, and they can leave anytime and take it with them.
- Memberships renew until you cancel. You can cancel anytime.
- Coins have no cash value and can't be cashed out.
- No explicit sexual content. Mature stories are fine with a Mature label.
- Art and stories must be made by people, not generated by AI.
- Respect other people's work. We remove copied work when we're told about it.
1. Who can use New Canon
- You must be 16 or older to make an account or join the email list.
- If you're under 18, you need a parent or guardian's permission to buy anything, and series marked Mature are hidden from you.
- You must be 18 or older to apply as a Founding Creator or publish as a creator.
- You can't use New Canon if we've closed your account for breaking these terms, or if the law doesn't allow you to.
2. Your account
- You can sign up with an email and password, or with Google. Give us true information, including your date of birth.
- One account per person. Don't share it, sell it, or use someone else's.
- Keep your password safe. You're responsible for what happens in your account. If you think someone else got in, email [email protected] right away.
- Your display name can't pretend to be someone else, and must follow the content rules.
3. Reading and memberships
Free samples
The first chapter of every series is free. If a series has only one chapter, the first part of it is free. Reading past the free sample needs a membership.
Memberships
- A membership lets you read regular chapters past the free sample. The price and what's included are shown before you pay.
- Early access chapters and exclusives aren't included. They cost coins (section 4).
- Memberships renew automatically at the end of each month or year, and your card is charged each time, until you cancel.
- You can cancel anytime in your account settings. You keep access until the end of the period you already paid for. We don't refund partial months or years, unless the law where you live says we must.
- If we raise the price, we'll email you at least 30 days before the new price applies to you, so you can cancel first. If we promised you a price when you joined, we keep that promise.
- Creators can remove their series (see section 7), so the library can change. A membership doesn't guarantee any particular series stays available.
4. Coins
- Coins let you unlock early access chapters and exclusives. Prices are shown in coins before you spend them.
- Coins have no cash value. They can't be cashed out, sold, or moved to another account, and they're a permission to unlock content, not money you own.
- Coin purchases are final, unless the law where you live says otherwise, or a purchase was a mistake on our side.
- Coins don't expire while your account is open. If you close your account, unused coins are lost.
- An unlocked early access chapter stays unlocked. An exclusive you unlocked stays yours to read while it's on New Canon.
- If a creator removes a chapter you paid coins for, we return those coins to your account.
- If New Canon ever shuts down, we'll tell you at least 60 days ahead so you can use your coins.
5. Tips
- Tips are gifts to creators. You don't get anything in return, and they can't be refunded, unless the law where you live says otherwise.
- There may be a minimum tip, shown before you pay. The creator gets the tip minus card and payment fees. We don't take a cut beyond those fees.
6. The shop
- Shop products are printed and shipped by our print-on-demand partner. Prices, shipping costs, sales tax, and delivery estimates are shown before you pay.
- If something arrives damaged, misprinted, or wrong, email [email protected] within 30 days of delivery with a photo, and we'll replace it or refund you.
- Because items are printed to order, we don't accept returns for a change of mind, unless the law where you live says we must.
7. For creators
Applying
Every series is reviewed before it goes up. Applying doesn't guarantee you'll be accepted, and we decide who's accepted. Before we approve you, you'll need to prove you control the account where your work is posted.
You own your work
Your characters, story, and art stay yours. Uploading to New Canon doesn't transfer any ownership to us.
The permission you give us
So we can run New Canon, you give us permission, while your work is on New Canon, to:
- Store, show, and deliver your work to readers on New Canon, including resizing and reformatting it for phones and computers
- Show it for free or behind a membership or coins, as the platform's rules and your settings say
- Use your pen name, profile, covers, and short excerpts to promote your series and New Canon, for example in Spotlight, newsletters, and social posts
- Print it on shop products you choose to offer
This permission isn't exclusive: you can publish your work anywhere else. It doesn't let us sell your work as our own, give it to anyone else to publish, or use it to train AI.
Leaving and taking your work with you
You can remove a chapter, a series, or your whole account anytime. We'll take it off New Canon within 30 days (usually much sooner), and our permission to use it ends. Posts we already made promoting your series may stay up, but we won't make new ones.
What you promise
- You own your work, or have every right needed to publish it here, including if it was made under a contract with someone else.
- It doesn't copy anyone else's work, and it follows the content rules.
- The art and story were made by you or your team, not generated by AI (see section 8).
- The information in your application is true.
Fees
- Starter creators pay $15 a month after a free first month. We take your card when you sign up, and email you before your first charge. The fee renews monthly until you cancel or your fee is waived. You can cancel anytime; you keep the month you paid for, with no refund for part of a month.
- Founding Creators pay nothing until reader memberships launch, and nothing for 3 more months after that. We'll email you before any charge.
- Rising: once your series has 50 real readers, your fee is waived.
- Partner: once your series has 150 real readers, you also get a share of membership money, based on how much members read your series.
- A "real reader" is a signed-in reader who finished at least 3 chapters of your series in the last 30 days (or every chapter, if there are fewer than 3). The exact rules for moving between tiers are shown on your creator dashboard.
- If we change tier goals, fees, or your share of earnings, we'll tell you at least 30 days ahead. We'll never lower the share of membership money that goes to the creator pool.
Getting paid
- Creators earn from tips, coin exclusives, shop sales, and (for Partners) the membership pool. Your current shares are shown on your earnings page before you earn them.
- Payouts go through Stripe. To get paid, you must finish Stripe's identity and tax setup. Payouts follow Stripe's schedule.
- You're responsible for your own taxes on what you earn.
- Fake readers, bots, bought views, or other tricks don't count. If we find them, we can hold or take back earnings and tier changes that came from them, and close the account.
8. Content rules
These apply to everything on New Canon: series, chapters, covers, profiles, and messages.
Mature series
Mature stories are welcome. A series must be marked Mature if it has strong violence or gore, strong language, drug use, disturbing themes like abuse or self-harm, or non-explicit sexual themes. Mature series show a warning before reading and are hidden from readers under 18. If a series isn't labeled and should be, we may label it.
Made by people
The art and story of every series must be made by the creator or their team. Ordinary digital tools are fine, like drawing and painting software, color fill, lettering tools, and spellcheck. AI-generated images and AI-written scripts aren't allowed, including AI art that's been traced over or edited. If we find a series uses them, we may remove it.
Never allowed
- Any sexual content involving minors, including characters who are, look like, or are presented as under 18, whatever their stated age. We remove it, close the account, and report it to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.
- Explicit sexual content or pornography, including sexual nudity.
- Sexual content about real people, or intimate images of anyone shared without consent.
- Content that attacks or dehumanizes people because of race, ethnicity, religion, disability, gender, sexual orientation, or similar traits. Stories can show racism, violence, and hate; they can't promote them.
- Content that promotes terrorism or violent extremism, or calls for real violence.
- Real photos or videos of gore or death.
- Instructions or encouragement for self-harm or suicide.
- Harassment, threats, or posting someone's private information.
- Work you don't have the rights to, or pretending to be another creator.
- Spam, scams, or links to malware.
- Anything illegal in the United States.
How we check
Uploads are checked partly by automated tools and partly by a person. Anyone can report something using the report button. We decide what breaks these rules, and we may remove content that does.
9. Copyright and takedowns
If you think something on New Canon copies your work, send a notice to our designated copyright agent:
Our designated copyright agent
Copyright Agent, New Canon LLC
Mail: New Canon LLC, Attn: Copyright Agent, 30 N Gould St, Ste 69736, Sheridan, WY 82801
Phone: (307) 533-7355
Email: [email protected]
New Canon LLC runs New Canon at newcanon.ink.
Your notice must include:
- Your signature (typing your full name works)
- What work of yours you believe was copied
- Where the copy is on New Canon (a link)
- Your name, mailing address, phone number, and email
- A statement that you believe in good faith the use isn't allowed by you, your agent, or the law
- A statement that your notice is accurate, and, under penalty of perjury, that you own the work or may act for the owner
We'll remove the material and tell the creator. If the creator believes it was removed by mistake, they can send us a counter-notice with the same kind of details, their consent to the courts where they live (or Wyoming, if they live outside the US), and a statement under penalty of perjury. We'll pass it to you, and restore the material in 10 to 14 business days unless you tell us you've filed a court case. Accounts that repeatedly post copied work are closed. False notices can lead to legal liability.
10. If someone breaks the rules
We may remove content, hide a series, hold earnings, or suspend or close an account that breaks these terms. When we can, we'll tell you why. If you think we got it wrong, reply to our email or write to [email protected], and a person will look again. For the most serious problems, like sexual content involving minors, we act right away and don't restore the account.
11. Closing your account
- You can close your account anytime in your account settings. Cancel any membership or Starter fee first, or it will be cancelled when you close.
- If we close your account for breaking these terms, unused coins are lost, and paid memberships aren't refunded, unless the law says otherwise. Earnings you made fairly before then are still paid out.
- If New Canon shuts down, we'll give at least 60 days' notice, so creators can save their work and readers can use their coins.
12. Legal terms
New Canon is provided "as is"
We work hard to keep New Canon running, but we can't promise it will always be available, error-free, or that any series will stay up. As far as the law allows, we don't make promises beyond the ones in these terms.
Limits on our responsibility
As far as the law allows, New Canon isn't responsible for indirect losses, like lost profits or lost data, and our total responsibility for any claim is limited to the greater of what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or $100. Nothing here limits responsibility that the law doesn't allow us to limit.
Creator responsibility
If a creator breaks the promises in section 7, for example by posting someone else's work, and someone makes a claim against New Canon because of it, that creator agrees to cover New Canon's reasonable costs from that claim.
Which laws apply
These terms follow the laws of Wyoming, USA. Disputes go to the state or federal courts in Wyoming, unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring them where you live. Your consumer rights under local law still apply.
Changes to these terms
If we change these terms, we'll update the effective date. For big changes, we'll email you at least 30 days before they take effect. If you keep using New Canon after that, the new terms apply.
Other
If one part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies. If we don't enforce a rule right away, we can still enforce it later. You can't transfer your account or these terms to someone else.
